Bunta Sugawara (菅原文太)
Birthdate: August 16, 1933
Birthplace: Sendai, Miyagi
He studied law in Waseda’s University but was dropped for failing to pay his school fees. He then worked in bars in Ginza. Was he a pimp ? Some rumors say so.
At the age of 25 (1958) he entered movie industry in Teruo Ishii’s Hakusen Himitsu Chitai (white lines) for Shin Toho Studio.
Later his alcohol abuses made him fired from Mashiro Shinoda’s “Shamisen & Motorcycle”.
Thanks to Noboru Ando, he joined Toei Studios in 1967. He then became the fetish actor of Kinji Fukasaku and one of the greatest movie star in Japan.
