Younger brother of Tomisaburo Wakayama. Blind Masseur in the cult Zatoichi series, Katsu played 25 movies between 1962 and 1973. He formed his own company (Katsu Productions) after the closing of Daiei Studios. He notably produced the Baby Cart series with his brother in the leading role of Ogami Itto. He is also known for his troubled personal life. He had several problem with the law regarding drug use as well, including marijuana, opium, and cocaine. He had also developed a reputation for being something of a troublemaker on set. He left on the set of Kagemusha after a clash with Akira Kurosawa. He died of pharyngeal cancer on June 21, 1997.
